Edify Medical part of LuminaX 2021
Cohort Innovation Space today announced the successful startups selected to participate in the LuminaX HealthTech Accelerator taking place on the Gold Coast.
Delivered in partnership with IntelliHQ and the Queensland AI Hub, the LuminaX Accelerator is designed to validate and commercialise early-stage, high-growth startups that are using technology or AI to solve problems in the health care space.
The program will provide comprehensive support to ten startups by taking them through a rapid and immersive educational program aimed at accelerating growth and fast-tracking connections and customers.
The program is supported by the Australian Government’s Department of Industry, Innovation and Science as part of the Entrepreneurs’ Programme, and the Queensland State Government’s department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Steven Miles said providing support and opportunities for Queensland businesses to grow organically was an essential part of strengthening the Queensland economy.
“This is a great example of the Queensland Government working with private enterprises to create jobs of the future in the health and knowledge sector,” Mr Miles said.
“With Cohort being located at Lumina, within the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, it provides start-up enterprises with a unique opportunity to engage and collaborate with the research and development currently in progress at the Gold Coast University Hospital, Griffith University and the Gold Coast Private Hospital”.
50% of applications for this accelerator were received from the Gold Coast, with 37% submitted from other areas in Queensland including Brisbane, Townsville, Sunshine Coast and Mackay. 13% of applications were received from interstate.
The selected cohort of emerging and established startups are across the HealthTech, MedTech and wellness sectors. Successful applicants will receive more than $50,000 in-kind value, including coworking desks at Cohort Innovation Space, personalised connections from over 25 industry partners, 80 hours of individual mentoring and coaching, and 10 facilitated workshops.

- Able Digital Wellness – An online community and digital wellness platform designed to improve the lives of those living with a disability by getting them moving with their friends, carers or even by themselves
- Beyond the Clinic – A two-sided marketplace that empowers patients to take their health into their own hands, whilst providing doctors with data to analyse patient outcomes
- Bundle of Rays – Immersive learning tools such as VR and AR to deliver education and training within the healthcare space
- Comfort Quest – A gamified paediatrician platform that empowers children with confidence and takes the fear and anxiety our of medical procedures for children.
- Datarwe – An acute care medical research data platform, enabling medical researchers to develop next-generation artificial intelligence clinical diagnostic tools and technologies
- Edify Medical – A new digital ecosystem designed to break down the barriers of language, cost and access to information which creates healthcare inequality across the globe
- Fwards – An digital platform that provides clinical nurses the tools to connect, reflect and grow together, aiming to improve burnout and turnover within the nursing sector.
- Hearoes – An accessible auditory training app that empowers those with hearing loss and helps them to thrive in the hearing world around them.
- Oncana – An integrated digital health and wellness experience that bridges the gap between treatment and care for people living with and beyond cancer.
- Safe and Healthy – Work wellness and safety platform providing on-demand health and wellness solutions to organisations, businesses and corporates.
- VirtualPsychologist – Psychology and counselling startup that delivers text based mental health services by qualified professional staff through a global IT platform.
Cohort Innovation Space Program Manager, Dren Xerxa said he is looking forward to working with 10 Australian startups and helping them to launch and refine their existing products.
“After a competitive application and selection process, we’re excited to announce the 10 startups that were successful in securing a place in our first cohort for the LuminaX HealthTech Accelerator.”
“I’m looking forward to working closely with these 11 startups, along with over 50 industry partners, mentors and coaches to provide them with the networks, expertise, space and resources required to build, grow and launch a successful business from right here on the Gold Coast” Mr Xerxa said.
The 14-week program will begin on April 6 and run through to July 2021.
